Name : The Wildlife Society at Texas State University
Description : The Wildlife Society at Texas State University is a professional development student organization that aims to help wildlife biology students gain important experience and knowledge in order to enhance their abilities within the wildlife biology profession. Students will have the opportunities to work side by side with professionals in the field, learn from guest speakers, and work on projects to benefit the local community, campus and wildlife. Students will also have the opportunity to network both with students of the same interests and with wildlife professionals. Examples of some things students can participate in includes our quiz bowl and plant ID teams, raptor rehab volunteering, white tail deer field research, and other various field research projects. Meetings are held every other Wednesday at 5:30 PM in Supple 116.
Purpose : The mission of the Wildlife Society is to enhance the ability of wildlife professionals to conserve diversity, sustain productivity, and ensure responsible use of wildlife resources for the benefit of society. This mission is implemented through five goals: 1. Advocate for the use of sound biological, social, and economic information in making wildlife policy decisions. 2. Enhance the knowledge and technical capabilities of wildlife professionals 3. Increase public awareness and appreciation of wildlife conservation and the wildlife profession. 4. Promote professional standards for wildlife research, education, and management. 5. Recognize the professional stewardship of wildlife.
Membership Requirements : Membership is open to interested students from any major. There is a membership fee of $15 per semester.
